Leave the spent primers in and you don't have to do either of those steps.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Man, I always do that. I deprime all my dirty brass, then do the cleaning & polishing trip. When it's time to resize, prime, and fill 'em up, the decapping pin just punches the stuck media right out. My oldest brother recently got that SS pin kit with the Thumlers rock tumbler, and he says it's the shizz. I might just ship all my brass to him for polishing now!

JM...I'm in the springs, but I have a very basic single-stage RCBS press you can have. Very rudimentary, but it beats the hell out of a hammer and punch and will get you in on the ground floor at no cost. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

You've never tried to achieve hyper-velocities out of a 9mm carbine loaded with 80 grain bullets?

Or tried to see how fast you could push a 400 grain projectile out of a Ruger No. 1 rifle in 45-70?

    What the hell?

Well, there was this one time with my S & W 44 mag Airlite. And at nice "Hot load" I did. Shot a 6 foot flame out the ballel. That was awesome. But scary.

Congratulations! I went through the same process. Had a tumbler that I picked up free from a neighbor, then picked up a Lee Classic single stage press and I've been reloading30-06 and 9mm ever since. Now I dream of a Dillon progressive press!

I tell you the worst part of being a reloader - you become OCD about picking up brass at the range!

I deprime and then tumble in walnut. Never had problems getting media stuck in the flash holes in 45acp. Just dip em out with a kitty litter scoop and give em a good shake.

Now I have had problems with primers not wanting to sit right due to carbon in the pocket, and I hate using that little lee pocket cleaner when I'm priming.

I've cleaned and deprimed about 7000 cases of .223, 9mm and .45 the last 2 weeks! still have a shit ton left to do. I plan on getting a ton of reloading done this winter! all single stage too! none of that fancy dancy stuff!
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.

    My Feedback
