Default Flash suppressor or muzzle brake?

So I've got a RRA 20" varmint ar 15, and was wondering if it'd be worth it to have the barrel threaded for a brake or flash suppressor? I will be using this firearm for shoot pdoggies, coyotes and etc... Oh my. Anyways I haven't fire the weapon yet so I can't respond yet on recoil.

    Thanks in advance.

I shot a "ban era" rifle in DCM competition for several years. No muzzle device. No big deal.

Of course, if you're worried the p-dogs might see some sort of flash and return fire you might consider something on there.

Also, if you don't thread it soon and some sort of legislation is passed that prohibits threaded muzzles in the near future you might be wishing you did it.

You need a brake! those .223's kick like mules. This coming from the guy that has a 4'11" wife that likes the Fal. All a mater of perspective.

Well if you need a brake on a 5.56 do you sit to pee?
A brake will make the rifle much more concussive, especially to those around you.
Muzzle flash is a concern if the prairie dogs are returning suppressive fire.
I would go with a closed bottom device either way you go if you are planning on shooting prone.

I think I know somebody who can thread it

(damn you Ray & Jerry, you type more faster than I)

Not only is it .223 but isn't the 20" varmint a heavy barrel as well? No real reason to do it except that you want to.

Only reason to thread it is if you are going to screw a can on it. Other than that, drive it like you stole it.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

This. The only thing I might do is have a nice new crown put on it if you don't know the history of the barrel and it isn't performing how you like.

I say put a brake on it.

Being able to see exactly where the bullet went if you miss is a big deal.

And being able to see the bullet hit is pretty cool too.
