I was at the Bronco game a few weeks ago and they were recognizing a PH survivor. This guy was on the Arizona and had burns on 70% of his body. They said that he couldn't sit down for a year because of of his injuries and multiple surgeries. What does he do? He reenlisted in the Navy while he was in the hospital and went on to participate in 5 amphibious assaults in the pacific. A true American hero.

HOLY CRAP! I was telling some of my buddies who were 10th MTN WWII vets that their generation truly were the toughest men to ever don a uniform... Damned if I didn't do my best to fill those boots, but no matter how hard I tried, we didn't quite compare. Those guys are the reason we're the home of the brave, land of the free! God bless them, and it's sad to see so many of them are passing so often now.

I feel the same way. None of the stuff we did will ever compare. I have had the privileged to meet a lot of ww2 vets in the history group I used to be in and they are truly amazing.
