Default Douglas County nuisance dog question on mediation.

My friend (I know how it sounds but it really is my friend and not me) is having a dispute with his neighbor over my friend's dogs barking. I don't know who's in the right or in the wrong but I know they don't like each other and I'm sure that may have something to do with it. He lives in Highlands Ranch and it's not his next door neighbors, it's about 3 houses down.

The neighbor called the police on him for the 3rd time in a month and animal control asked the neighbor if he'd be willing to do in person mediation with the Sheriff's Department.

My question is; what is mediation with the Sheriff's Department in a case like this?

They will just come out and play referee for your friend and the complainant to have a "civil" discussion about the dog to see if some common ground can be worked out.

I'm with my friend on this one. I know he takes care of his dogs and doesn't leave them out for extended periods. It all started after the neighbor noticed him shooting at a rabbit with a pellet gun. From some web searches it appears his neighbor is a professor so my guess would be that he's anti gun.

Have his immediate neighbors write an opinion if they think his dog barks too much.

If they say no then he could tell the deputies that the harassment needs to stop. If his actual neighbors think his dog is annoying... well ..can't blame bias

I'm having the same problem in highlands ranch, but I got an invitation to meet the judge out of it. I have an older, retired neighbor who exaggerated each time he has called about how long my dog was outside and barking. The ordinance basically states if a dog barks once and it is a nuisance to someone, it is a ticketable offense.

That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

    Probably really not mediation.
It is called restorative justice, or "RJ".
    Closer binding arbitration than anything.
I do have a neighbor with multiple dogs that sometimes bark for more than 5 hours straight at night.
It is what is being suggested in our case. Even though the barking is illegal, the sheriff's office is suggesting the RJ before issuing any more tickets.

Once again, dogs bark.Next time your "friend" hears the neighbors talking, call the cops. Dogs tall through barking. The neighbors are assholes. End of story. When my neighbors bitch, I bitch even louder!! You can always find something to bitch about! The Biscuit concurs......
