Which Scope for a Mosin Nagant?

I took the rear sight assembly off my 91/30 and used the 3/8" dovetail that's on top of the barrel. Got a Leaper's mount for an air rifle from Optics Planet, and you can put any 1" LER type scope on there, although mine is a cheap p.o.s. from NcStar, which will likely be replaced.

The mount was only $15, and it's awesome for the price. They offer a different one with 3 screws for even better clamping power, and it's not offset, but it's longer and you'd have to modify the top handguard of the rifle for it to fit. Perfect mount though if you're building a sporter in a different stock. My mount requires no permanent mods to the rifle, and the rear sight will go right back on.

This dovetail is only on the long rifles like the 91/30's though, it's not on the M44's or M38's.

Pay attention to what you're ordering though, they have so many kinds. Some are 1", some are 30mm, some are low mount, some are medium, some are high, some have see-through bases. but they have a helluva selection, the quality is very good, and the prices can't be beat. I personally would prefer the 3-screw mount without the offset, but they're 100mm long vs. the 62mm of this mount, and you'd have to cut off the rear of the handguard a little. Not an issue with an aftermarket stock though, and the 3-screw will clamp far tighter. For the price, you'll be suspicious. But once it's in your hand you'll wonder how the hell they could make it for that price.
