Default That's no ordinary gun ma'am.

    http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs...opstories.html

Just like a scene out of "Antiques Roadshow," a woman in Hartford, Conn., turned in an old rifle to her local police station's gun buy-back, only to discover the gun was worth anywhere from $20,000 to $25,000. The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, inherited the gun from her father who had brought it home with him from Europe as a memento from World War II.

luckily, the cops were kind enough to hold the gun for her so she can sell it.

If you actually listen to Klashnikov in his interviews about the AK, they ask about him "copying" the STG44, he says that he didn't copy the design, but that the design was the only logical one for the AK and it just happens to look similar.

If it was Chicago they would have just destroyed history without a care. Can't wait until the media destroys these cops for their use of common sense.

I used to hate when the old ladies would bring in guns to turn in to our PD after the death of their spouse. I would always recommend them to go to a former gun store and see a particular guy and ask to sell the guns. That particular guy would be fair to the widow and buy them at a good price and not screw them over. Also, the widow's get some money out of the deal.

I am curious to know, these "gun turn-ins"- how often does this happen?

Gosh, I would love to have an authentic STG 44!

Probably once every couple of months. Most of the guns were old and probably not worth a whole lot. But, at the time I didn't have as good of an understanding I do now on rough values of older guns. I wanted to make sure these old ladies got some money for them from someone who would not screw them over and take advantage of them. That was the primary reason they came to the PD to drop them off; they didn't want to deal with pawn shops or didn't have any knowledge on how to sell them.
