anyone have experience defining property lines?

I have a buddy who is in the Surveying world and he talked to an old cowboy that they had surveyed his land for. The guy had a genius idea- as soon as his legitimate property lines were established (neighbor issues as well) he put in a barbed wire fence. Had the local sheriff's department out on an almost monthly basis calling for the arrest of his neighbor for cutting his fence. Took them to court and pointed out in CO state law, still on the books, you can be hanged for cutting barbed wire fences that aren't yours.
The judge just filed a cease and desist order and made the defendant pay this guys legal fees plus trespassing fines.
