Because I was corrected by him on the designation of AR. ...like I said I am giving him the benefit of the doubt since he is a Colt Armorer, and the AR in CAR is Automatic Rifle. The other possibility is he was fucking with me and I missed the sarcasm.

    BuffCyclist -

I actually stole it from a book on guns done by Field and Stream. I had never heard it before and I really liked it.

If I call it a bang stick that shoots lead gumdrops, do you think that will make it more acceptable to people who don't like guns?

It stands for Armalite Rifle, model 15.

MIS-information over the net....gotta love it.

On the subject of naming guns to something different,

You can call them Rifle,Carbine, Sniper rifle, or Black death machine.....when it comes down to it, they are TOOLS, nothing more.

Different tools have different purposes. Some people use a HAMMER to fix anything. However it may be the WRONG tool, they still do it anyway. This is often applied in real world and you can see it on an almost weekly basis, guys using a .338 for shooting Coyotes. It works but its a little "Overkill".

Or when you see "Bubbas" at the range shooting dirt clods with an AK.....when we know all you need to take down those evil dirt clods with is a .22

    Nail on the head.

Most people don't know that the AR-10 was made before the AR-15.

I knew that. 10 comes before 15 unless you are counting backwards

One of my favorite quotes from a famous man-

"The problem with the internet it is impossible to verify the source of information." President Abraham Lincoln, from one of his more obscure speeches.

I've always believed it was ArmaLite Rifle model 15.

Default Assault Weapon Rifle - 15 (full pun intended)

Does it bothers anyone when the Hollywood gun grabbers say AR stand for Assault Rifle?
From my understanding AR stand for Armlite...

For the hearing and visually impaired:

    AR = ARMALITE RIFLE

This has been a public service announcement.

    Thank you
