What's needed for legal face-to-face firearm transfer in Colorado?

Being new to CO, can someone tell me what's needed to do a legal private face to face firearm transfer in the state? And difference between handguns and rifles? Any background check requirements of any kind?

Never got the chance to do it, but I believe in Illinois both parties justed needed to have a FOID card. Problem is, you couldn't necessarily tell if the card was valid or not. And because of the strong anti-gun sentiments in my area, it was safer just to do an FFL to FFL transfer, which of course drastically increased the cost of the transfer (My local gunshop used to charge $50 for transfers.).

Legal age and no prior knowledge that said persons are restricted from owning firearms.-should be all that's needed.

Wow, cool. Do you guys feel there's any need for a bill of sale or getting a DL # or anything else except exchanging the gun for cash? I guess I'm just paranoid having lived in IL for so long.

If you want to, you can. It may hamper your sales. It's best to state it up front.

It's common to ask to see an ID to prove their residency. A CCW also works.

I just ask fo ID sometimes to verify age and residency. I may ask if they are a felon.

That said, if I did not feel good about the buyer I would walk and not do the sale.

I have not walked on any one yet, and have done many FTF's in CO.

NU2CO don't worry after a few years the chains of the Peoples Republic of Illinois (PRI) will finally wear off and you will be free.

My wife is from Peoria and has lived outside the state for 15 years now and sometimes she will still say something that makes me laugh. Forget the FOID cards, gun registration and all the other BS from that state and enjoy the freedoms we have here in Colorado. As you know we have lots of public land, great hunting, fishing and all sorts of other outdoor activities.

BTW is there a mass migration from the PRI happening now? In the last month I bet I have met at least 10 people from the PRI that have moved to Chaffee County within the last few months. I know of several more that have been here for many years.
