What's the opinions of folks here on Denver's pit bull ban? I personally don't own a pit bull, but i have always liked medium to large dogs. And I seen pit bulls(very few), I though they were all cute and friendly.

Oh man, there's a thread about this somewhere. It got pretty heated and locked down IIRC.

Girlscouts? Hmmm, I don't know... I think it's kinda dangerous to teach young girls self esteem and leadership skills.
I didnt know there is a pit bull ban in Denver until very recently when i asked a pet store employee about pit bull pupps. And i figured that a topic like this may get too sensitive.

Like an AWB... it's ridiculous. I read a few years back, more people are bit by labs and lab mixes every year than pit bulls. This is probably because there is a much larger lab population but you still don't and never will hear of a ban on labs. Blame the person, not the breed.
Yes... that's a vicious pit bull in my avatar

All dogs are loyal, loving, and protect the pack. They need proper training, love, and good care. Some dog breeds have a stigma, mostly because of what people have bred into the animal and focused training efforts to produce. Personally I think all dogs can be dangerous, or can be the best family pet ever no matter what the breed. It all depends on breeding and disposition of the specific animal.
I have owned a Mountain Feist, Chow/Lab, and an Akida, all of them fiercely loyal and all of them interpreted what was a threat to the pack differently. Dogs aren't bad owners are, unfortunately there are many greater good laws, and in urban areas they are going to exist more often than not because of lack of education, knee-jerk reaction legislation, and people behaving badly.
My Mountain Feist I kept away from small children, she was gentle and tolerant ...kids could pull on her fur all day long and she would just lick them, but when they had a high pitched giggle or laughter she'd nip.
My Akida bit my brother when we were rough housing, he knew better and I knew better. She didn't set her teeth hard, but she did break the skin.
Either one of these animals could have seriously hurt someone, and so much of what they do is instinctual and unfortunately many pit bulls or mixes out there don't have a pedigree and folks don't know if they have been bred for aggression, which changes everything. Dogs and guns are similar, the responsibility of safety falls on the owner, and we all know there are negligent owners. The issue with dogs the negligent owner creates a threat he cannot control. I don't support a pitbull ban, but as long as there are people breeding them to fight, I doubt it will be lifted anytime soon.
The owners are the key element into raising a good pitbull versus a bad pitbull. I have had 4 pits and all have been around little kids/infants and I think they are the best dogs in the world.
They are not a breed for the timid owners. The owners HAVE to be the Alpha or it will not go the way you want it. You have to be able to train a dog and to be assertive with them.
My current purebred pit is a baby. I raised him from day one to be the Beta and he knows it. The baby who is just over a year can beat the snot out of him if she wanted. He will not turn on her and he actually will get up and move because he knows he may get in trouble when I am around and she is crawling on him. She pinched his back hind leg/belly transition area, he has nipped at me for doing this...I would do this on purpose to get a reaction to correct, he looked at her and yelped and that was it. He is probably the greatest dog I have ever had. I can let him out in the front yard and he stays on the porch and if I tell him he goes in the grass and will not leave the perimeter. Training is the key with any so called vicious breed.
The one thing you have to realise about pitbulls, THEY ARE DOG AGGRESSIVE by nature and if you do not socialise them, you will have issues down the road. Mine is well socialized and have never had an issue with him or any of the other 3 I have owned.
