Any rifle ranges open to the public around Delta, Gran Junction, Rangely?
Any rifle ranges open to the public around Delta, Gran Junction, Rangely?
One of the best things about living on the west slope is all the open, .gov land. And almost all of it is open to shooting. Just find a nice safe spot, make sure it's public land and have fun. Pick up your stuff when you leave please.
That said, I don't know of any places in the areas you said, but there are places to shoot.
A co-worker of mine that's in the National Guard says that they shoot at a public range near the Grand Junction airport. I don't know if there's a rifle range there or not, but I don't think he's talking about shooting pistols. Might ask around over there.
Or like B. Bob said, shouldn't be hard to find a spot in the country. Now over here in the Denver area, different story......![]()
Thanks.
I do quite a bit of shooting on the western slope on public lands.
But was looking for a range out to 300 yards or more with benches/tables to do some precision long range sight-ins.
Marty
Travis says they have it all. Covered shooting area, benches, tables, 300 yards+, etc. His guard unit shoots full auto M16's and M4's there. Backstop is the mountains north of the airport. Guess it's called Bookcliff. Any local gun shop should be able to tell you where it is.
Hmmm...sounds like a nice place. Will have to try and find it sometime.
hey Marty, we have a range close to Hotchkiss ( east of Delta) that has targets out to 600 yrds. they also have a Billy Dixon shoot out to 1500 yrds. but needs to be shot with lead bullets and old black pwder catridges. Are you close to Delta or would be traveling down here? we usually go out to the "dobies" to shoot unless serious load work up. let me know!!
27 1/2 rd past the Airport there's a pistol and rifle range the PD used and not it's BLM open 24/7/365
Hey BDT, thanks - I'll let ya know about a shoot. I tend to hit the dobies too with some plinking now and then.
