Default Letter to My Congressmen, Senators and...

Here is the letter I will be sending out to those who represent me, please feel free to comment, and use if it will help you become involved in this impending fight:

    Dear Congressman Lamborn,

In light of recent events in our country, it has become increasingly apparent that the elected leaders of our nation are set on stripping the American people of their God given rights to keep arms for their protection and the protection of the Union. This cannot happen.

As a resident of your district, and as a Conservative that supported you in your recent reelection campaign, I urge and insist you to strongly oppose any regulation that would hinder my right to bear arms. As an individual who makes his living in the firearms industry, the effects of Washington regulation and ban would have doubly crippling results upon me and my family.

Undoubtedly, the rhetoric of the “protectionist” left and the purveyors of the proposed legislation will argue that the private ownership of such firearms as the AR-15 platform, and magazines whose capacity is standard above 10 cartridges is unnecessary for civilian use, and in fact contribute to the murderous events seen in our recent past. These statements could not be further from the truth. While these devices may have been used in tragic events, they are no different from the motor vehicle, which may be piloted as a guided missile into innocents, or the hammer, golf club or baseball bat which may be inappropriately used to bludgeon someone to death. The inanimate object is not evil; it is the evil within the individual who misuses these tools that must be confronted.

In the violence that we have witnessed this year, remember that the perpetrators acted with total disregard for the laws of the land. These murderous individuals committed multiple felonies without thought of the consequences. However, we can see that a responsibly armed individual in the recent Clackamas murders was able to put a swift end to the act, undoubtedly saving countless innocent lives. Do not in any way hinder our ability to responsibly protect ourselves from such acts of violence.

Please regard this correspondence as a call to stand firm. Stand firm against the impending attacks on our freedom and God given rights. Stand firm in the face of those who would accuse you as compliant with the heinous acts perpetrated in Colorado and Connecticut. Stand firm with the knowledge and belief that your cause is just, and that we, your district will stand with you when you seek reelection.

    Sincerely,
"Owning a handgun doesn't make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician." - Col. Jeff Cooper

I think you need to add a reference to the oath that each member of congress must take when sworn in:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

I'd place special emphasis on the "domestic enemies" part.

    Great letter...

Help yourself, you may want to change a few things to personalize it.
