    Default interpreting headstamps?

I'm trying to sort a bag of brass I was given into 5.56 and .223. I've run into a lot of shells that don't state the caliber, but do have other markings, such as LC (Lake City?), PSD, and WCC. Can I assume each of these stampings means one or the other? If so, which is which?

    Thanks for your help.

Brass isn't either 5.56mm or .223. There isn't any difference in the brass between the two spec's really. It can be useful to sort out the headstamps by whether or not its primer crimped but that's about it.

There is a difference in the webbing of the base between the 5.56 / .223 . the 5.56 is thicker and can stand to be reloaded with a little more pressure aka hotter.

Not necessarily, DSB. There isn't as much variation between military 5.56mm and .223 Remington as there was between say military arsenal and civilian .30-06.
