Nugent claims he made that entire story up to mess with the High Times staff, but in fact still had a student deferment to get out of the draft anyway. Thanks for sharing the fact he avoided the draft (hadn't heard that before), but I don't know if I believe the posted story. It sounds a lot like something The Onion would publish. http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/nugent.asp
Cassius Clay was a POS draft dodger as well, but that doesn't diminish his boxing prowess. Nugent loses his temper and makes gun-owners look pretty bad sometimes IMO, but the guy is typically informed and eloquent enough to make very good points on the subject matter. Most people have some shit in their past they aren't proud of. I'm not sure that means we should never listen to another word they say.

Nynco...not gonna lie...I thought you might have died. I was ok with that. Just thought you should know.

So you're in the camp that thinks there is no way in hell you can ever be respected when you avoid going to a war that you don't feel is justified? I mean, what if there was a war that broke out with Somalia (just spitballing) tomorrow, and they instituted a draft... you're saying you'd just raise your hand and go? Have you ever served in the military? I was raised by a woman who had 70% of the men in her HS graduating class get drafted to go fight in a war, they didn't want to go, but the draft made them. Being a veteran, I like the fact that I could volunteer on my own free will and go defend my country so not everyone had to. I also think people change. Ted may not have been a die hard patriot back then, also, you forget how unpopular of a war Vietnam was... of course now, looking back, whether or not we went, didn't really do much, so the "war" there could have been avoided. Did your mother have any children that lived?

No I take issue with his pro war hypocrisy. I take issue with Chicken Hawks.
Chickenhawk (also chicken hawk and chicken-hawk) is a political term used in the United States to describe a person who strongly supports war or other military action (i.e., a War Hawk), yet who actively avoided military service when of age.
The term indicates that the person in question is hypocritical for personally dodging a draft or otherwise shirking their duty to their country during a time of armed conflict while advocating that others do so. Generally, the implication is that chickenhawks lack the moral character to ask others to support, fight and perhaps die in an armed conflict. Those who avoid military service and continue to oppose armed aggression are not chickenhawks.
I love helicopter guys, I was stationed on a helo base for a long time. Bunch of crazy fun guys there.
DUDE!!! Are you retarded? So back when I was in High School I smoked pot, I don't now, and don't agree with it... does that make me a hypocrite or just "grown up"? Not everything is black and white and we're not zebras, we can change our stripes... Gawd, you're such a typical liberal... where is that ignore button?

No not everything is black and white. But I think that those who are the first to wave the flag and call for war.... who in their own life when called upon did not step up, are Chicken Hawks. I did not see him as the cautious type when other peoples lives were on the line.
