    Default Alternative to Wayne's proposal...?

I think Wayne's proposal of cops in the schools might be economically prohibitive for many schools.

But if the daily cruising police, deputies or state cops could begin an unscheduled presence to any schools along their district, it might do some good.

Instead of just routinely driving by several times a day they could have a keyed/coded access wherein they could enter the school and just strolled through.

It's unlikely they'd just happen to walk in on a bad situation, but when the potential shooter knows they could walk in at any time it might be enough for him to reconsider.

I can't see where this would take more than 30 minutes from their schedule. Would also instill in the kids a sense of cops being good guys and to be trusted.

Perhaps a high-mounted box of donuts in the lunch rooms might add the necessary incentive. ;->

Alternative? Let the people be armed, trained & prepared. We don't need more "professionals", thank you. Israel gave us the model to follow. We don't need more abdication of our responsibilities...

Arm the teachers. Give them free nra sponsored ccw training. Send them to the police range. Let them carry voluntarily. Many will do it to protect the kids. I guarantee it.

what would cost more? armed security?

    or

a new national beuracracy created to ban firearms and enforcement? anything they do will be expensive.

    one will have actual benefits

one will just screw law abiding Americans

Aren't most school shootings preformed by active or recently active students?

Cops at the schools won't work. Shooters will learn their routine and that will be the first hit.

Teachers with CCW!! That way there is still the element of surprise and the unknown for the shooter. He may not get to the front door!

In Anchorage, there is a cop in every High school. They deal with more than just protection, it works. I don't see the problem.

If you forgot, most teachers get thier education from those liberal arts colleges. I would think that it should be an option.
