Default The NRA's idea of armed response in schools is so ridiculous because...

Clinton said it first? Wait what? I thought it would lead to hysteria and bed wetting and stunting our kids future?

Clinton asking for $60 million to put an armed guard in every school one year after Columbine...

I don't believe it is ridiculous, but it would-be be very expensive, a school resource officer costs about 85,000 thousand per year with salary , benefits and equipment cost. A District could hire its owned armed force and that cost would be about 60,000 per year. cant see 60 million covering much of those costs across the country in these lean times. I wish the media would point out the a student or staff member is safer in their school than they are in their home.

As far as arming teachers makes sense in a brain like you or I have, but most of them hate and despise firearms. I also feel that it takes some serious training to engage an active shooter so of that would happen there would have to be some serious training for this teacher. I feel the School Resource Officer is the best solution and supplemented by a trained armed guard.

It would not cost my school a dime.....they would just have to call me and say "Mr. Rico we would like you to be armed from now on"........I would do it without question.
    Wouldn't phase me one bit.

I know teachers that are quite middle of the road politically speaking, yet are strong supporters of 2A.

Clinton didn't say it first. The idea of SROs has been around for long time...long before Clinton. I don't think LaPierre was trying to take credit for coming up with a new idea. I think he was trying to say that it's the only idea that will work. Yeah, it's expensive. But so is life. The government wastes plenty of money. We could easily find the funds to pay for this out of some other bureaucratic budget. But it's not about that. Liberals will never go for more guns in schools because they just don't like guns.

I don't know if needs to necessarily be an armed police officer, but we need armed and trained individuals in schools who are ready to assume the responsibility as potential first responders to an armed criminal in the school.

Unless they can play it like it was their idea. That's my only point on this one.

People keep saying this. Please listen as I AM a teacher... There are some teachers I would pay for NOT to have access to a firearm. Let's not use such a broad brush stroke. People need training, etc. None of my admins are on this board so: I think it would be a great idea for teachers to be allowed to carry. But I've known more than one who was "dismissed" because they asked for permission to carry in the school. People are more scared of the kids getting access to it than an actual shooter scenario.

Yes I carry in school, no one knows... hence the "concealed".

    Carry on, be safe. Think.
