Looks like the Gun Free School Zone Act might not apply in CO, so we're just restricting ourselves now?

    (A) It shall be unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm that has moved in or that otherwise affects interstate or foreign commerce at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone.(B) Subparagraph (A) does not apply to the possession of a firearm—
    (ii) if the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located or a political subdivision of the State, and the law of the State or political subdivision requires that, before an individual obtains such a license, the law enforcement authorities of the State or political subdivision verify that the individual is qualified under law to receive the license;

So anyone with a CCW is g2g per the fed?

You know a lot of schools already have armed officers on campus. For years, Montbello had at least two, don't know if they still do. (And that's the school where one kids killed another in the cafeteria with a knife).

Sen. Boxer proposes deploying National Guard at schools

    BY RICHARD SIMON

    December 19, 2012, 11:23 a.m.

WASHINGTON — Federal funds would be made available to deploy National Guard troops at schools under legislation introduced Wednesday by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) in response to last week’s mass slaying at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn.
The Save Our Schools Act would leave it to governors to decide whether to call out the National Guard and how to use troops around schools.
"Is it not part of the national defense to make sure that your children are safe?" Boxer said at Capitol Hill press conference.
Boxer also introduced the School Safety Enhancement Act, which would increase funding for a federal grants program, from $30 million to $50 million, to help fund school security measures, such as installation of metal detectors and surveillance cameras.

The bills are among the first of what is expected to be a wave of legislative proposals intended to curb gun violence, including tougher gun control and new measures aimed at keeping firearms out of the hands of the mentally ill.
"The slaughter of the innocents must stop," she said. "We must keep our schools safe by utilizing all of the law enforcement tools at our disposal."
Boxer said the National Guard legislation is modeled after a program in place since 1989 that allows governors to use the National Guard to aid law enforcement in anti-drug operations. Troops could be deployed at schools, or assigned to desk jobs at police stations to free up local law enforcement to patrol schools.
Citing 258 shooting deaths at U.S. schools since 1999, Boxer said, "Whoever says this is not the right time, I say this, 'When is the right time?'"

Still doing it wrong. But I guess it's not such a ridiculous idea now is it?

I would personally pay for the CCW training for a teacher who wanted to carry at my kids school.

They can simply change their job description from teacher to teacher/security guard and the law allows for them to carry.

Default The NRA's idea of armed response in schools is so ridiculous because...

Frankly, I was pissed the NRA's big plan was to push for more school resource officers. With budgets so tight there's no way it would happen. No mention of permit holders carrying in school.

BTW - Chris Christie lost my vote. His knee jerk response to this was typical progressivism, not conservatism.

The issues of federal/military in civilian matters is a bit sketchy for me, but I kinda like the National Guard or maybe reserves idea. Have all these troops with benefits but don't get paid all that much more than private security. Gives them something to do and a bit of extra pay from extra days. Either volunteers for a full time duty or a rotation of different people covering different days.
