Default What do you think of the .338-06 cartridge?

I am going to build a custom rifle on a Mauser action and wanted something a little different from all the typical calibers that I already have. Someone suggested the .338-06. I had heard of it but never realy looked into it. I know that ammo would be impossible to find but I plan on reloading for it anyway. I figure it shouldnt be too hard to find .338 projectiles and 30-06 brass. So what do you guys think?

Reloading may be the only option, Least I have heard about it going mainstream yet.

From what I remember about it, it's been awhile, It was fairly close a lowend .300WM, without the recoil. Always thought it would be neat to try, just never could justify the "start-up" cost.

If You get it built, Bring it to a shoot, I'd like to try it out.

.338 bullets are no problem you can find them everywhere. If that is what you want go for it buy some 06 brass neck it up and have fun.

I have a freind that bought a remington 760 chambered in .358 win and could not find ammo. I necked up some .308 brass and he still hunts with that gun.

If that's what you want do it and of course bring it to a shoot.
