Colorado gun background check wait time tops 100 hours after Newtown shooting

    Published December 26, 2012
    Associated Press

A spike in requests for background checks on firearms buyers in Colorado has overwhelmed the system that businesses use to track how long the checks will take. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation's online wait-time clock for background checks tops out at 99 hours and 59 minutes. The Denver Post reports the wait is now more than 100 hours, leaving potential buyers to guess on exact wait times.

The checks once took minutes, but request for background checks spiked after the school shooting in Newtown, Conn.
The lag comes with the Tanner Gun Show set to start this weekend. The show's co-owner Ty Blount says the lag means dealers will either mail a gun to a customer or meet the customer again later once the background check has cleared.
    ************************************************** ************************************

...So Tanner buyers, when the BG check is finally completed, will

    1. 1) Receive a gun in the mail (handguns for FFL holders, long guns for the rest)
    2. 2) Have to find a local FFL to use to transfer & possibly pay shipping (non-local handguns, non-local dealers)
    3. 3) Meet up somewhere in about 2-3 weeks (if bought from a somewhat local dealer)

At what point do we just call it a 7 day waiting period instead of a background check?
Progressive ideology, ideas so good they must be mandatory.

I wonder if the pileup is going to cause Dickinpooper and his cronies to reconsider the idea of bringing stricter gun control laws to CO.

"Mail the gun to the customer" ? I want to Know if that is even possible from an FFL. I know an individual can send firearm to an FFL, but the other way around ?
Firearms delivered to my door, that would be nice.

Not by US Mail, no, but an instate dealer can UPS/Fedex a handgun to your door, using 4473, Pt 2.

    1) You show up, buy gun, fill out BG check paperwork.
    2) When BG check finally clears, he fills out 4473 Pt2, and mails a copy to your CLEO.
    3) If CLEO doesn't object within 7 business days, FFL can UPS/Fedex to your instate address.
