    Default America has been disarmed

I don't usually do these kind of posts, but.....
Was just doing a little online ammo shopping knowing the .223 was out of the question, but maybe I could beef up my collection of .22 or 9mm.... Nope, all gone from my usual places. If its pretty much gone from where I shop, it is certainly gone from where most gun owners shop.
That got me to thinking about the people that are not tremendous gun enthusiasts, but shoot once in a while. People like my father-in-law who owns a few guns, but picks up ammo on the way to the range. Sure, he might have a box or two laying around, but he doesn't have thousands of rounds for each caliber. Most of us would consider 10-50 rounds nothing. Of all the millions of guns in America, how many have a reasonable amount of ammo to get through something terrible.
So that got me thinking about all the guys out there that are as patriotic as any one of us, but might only own a 10/22, or maybe nothing at all. What do they do if "it" hits the fan? There is no ammo on store shelves. There are very few guns left for sale in the stores. Magazines... forget about it.
I've read plenty of "what if" posts in my years here. Zombies, government meltdown, foreign invasion, etc...people always post about hitting the closest local sporting goods store to supply up. I would guess you would have a hard time finding an air soft gun right now.
So my point is... Is America disarmed right now?
Sure, some have lots of guns and plenty of ammo, but I bet that it is a very small percentage of gun owners.
Right now the price of a semi auto gun, magazines, and ammo is out of most people's ability. I would also bet very few Americans that would like to be armed know about forums like this where they could access private sales.
I seriously doubt any legislation could be passed that would wipe out the availability of guns and ammo as fast as the recent shootings have. I don't have any answers, and I'm not about to donate the 1 or 2 guns I have, but the liberals would laugh if they knew how un-attainable firearms are to the average American right now without a single thing being done by Obummer.

We've been through this before 4 years ago to be exact it will pass, and the shelves will be full again then maybe the people who went without for a while will slowly stock up and not wait for the next to come around.

I hope so, I am dying to get on the range and can't find ammo at a decent price!

There is a great deal of difference between "gun owners" and "shooters". America has a metric fuck ton of gun owners and not enough shooters.
What is my joy if all hands, even the unclean, can reach into it? What is my wisdom, if even the fools can dictate to me? What is my freedom, if all creatures, even the botched and impotent, are my masters? What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to obey?

    Quoted for truth.

If there's nothing wrong with having to show an ID to buy a gun, there's nothing wrong with having to show an ID to vote.

For legal reasons, that's a joke.

I see it as the exact opposite. It's not like the ammo, mags and guns disappeared. They were all bought. There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of newly armed citizens in our country. We're more armed now than we ever were. And for those who find themselves lacking in basic supplies, learn something from this. Prepare better. This panic will eventually blow over and basic necessities like ammo will come back in stock at more reasonable prices. Buy a little extra every month. Plan for a rainy day. This will all happen again.

4 years ago the shortage was caused primarily by a shortage in primers that eventually rectified itself. I think the shortage now is simply panic buying but we'll see if ammunition manufacturers report any reason to slow down in their production.
