Default How to beat the upcoming Assault Weapons Ban in Colorado Legislature

There are three things we (RMGO) need to beat the coming Assault Weapons ban (and other gun controls) in the Colorado legislature.

    1. A solid battleplan -- It can’t be developed on a whim and a prayer, nor by the inexperienced. Having a desire and passion to change things is vital, but experience managing political battles is even more important – especially when we’re talking about losing a civil right.

RMGO has that plan (though we don’t release specifics until we need to, as we don’t want the other side to know that exact plan). So check this box.
    2. Numbers – The only thing that scares politicians into changing how they vote is a large group of people, operating in unity, who will hold them accountable in the next election.
And make no mistake about it: No politician is afraid of one person, acting as a lone wolf, nor are they scared of citizens who “say” they’ll hold them accountable. They’re only afraid of groups who have proven, time and again, that they can organize people, raise money, and – ultimately – win elections. RMGO is the ONLY group in Colorado with that reputation.

You can really help with this item. Every activist can.

    1. Resources – Without the resources to mobilize and enact battle plans, all of the plans are just an exercise.

    So, how can you help?

    2. If you’re already a member, ask any gun-owning and/or freedom-loving friends and family to join RMGO.
    3. Sign people up on our e-mail subscription list (which is free).
    4. Get ready to act. There’s going to be plenty of opportunity for it in Denver.

Since the Colorado legislature convenes on Jan. 9th, and is constitutionally limited to 120 days (so ends in early May), things happen VERY fast – much faster than Congress. Rarely do we have much notice of anything.

But you can’t oppose a bill that is, as of yet, non-existent. So, RMGO will wait until a bill is filed before we tell people to start contacting their state legislators.

A Caution: BEWARE OF COMPROMISES. There are already people “on our side” who are trying to cut deals with politicians on these gun controls. Stay away from those types. They’ll work behind closed doors, and tell politicians “We’ve worked out this deal for only HALF of the gun control offered. If you vote for it, don’t worry – we’ll protect you.”

This "deal cutting" is how gun control usually passes.

RMGO doesn’t do those deals. It’s underhanded, and destroys our ability to fight gun control both now and in the future.

Well put Dudley! I sent a message (again I know the pitfalls of such a large org like them) to NRA's leadership this morning asking them, no, demanding that they give up zero ground in the coming years. I also cited how their track record on gun control has been less than stellar and that this time they will be held accountable. Hence why I will not ever become a life member of the NRA as they've given concessions in the past, like Mitt Romney said "I like to be able to 'fire' people who don't get the job done."

I joined as well. We need to do everything possible, in a peaceful manner, to stop those who would seek to further infringe upon our rights.

Girlscouts? Hmmm, I don't know... I think it's kinda dangerous to teach young girls self esteem and leadership skills.
