I'm probably going to have Rucker and nynco[mpoop] jump on me for this, but the biggest oxymoron today is 'gun-owning democrat.' Seriously, it's in their platform of ideals, they want "reasonable" restrictions on gun ownership. I read something the other day:
"The importance of this article will scarcely be doubted by any persons, who have duly reflected upon the subject. The militia is the natural defence of a free country against sudden foreign invasions, domestic insurrections, and domestic usurpations of power by rulers. It is against sound policy for a free people to keep up large military establishments and standing armies in time of peace, both from the enormous expenses, with which they are attended, and the facile means, which they afford to ambitious and unprincipled rulers, to subvert the government, or trample upon the rights of the people. The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them." -Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story, 1811-1845.

Are you good with the entire Joseph Story quote you posted, or just parts of it?

That quote right there I believe you to be taking out of context... He says nothing about eliminating the military, just not keeping war-capable force size 100% of the time- in that context he is speaking kind of in terms like it was just after WWII- during WWII we had a large force, but after Korea such a large force wasn't necessary so it can shrink and expand again when needed. It's more of an argument toward the requirement for a militia (to be defined as "any civilian that takes upon themselves the responsibility to keep an bear arms"- as Story quoted at a later date).

10,000,000 less people voted for Obama the second time than the first time and the Repubs still could not win? There is a problem on the Repub side too, fielding an East Coast Rino. I agree we will never convert the far left, but that is maybe 10-30%. We only need a 1-2% swing to change things.

The swing vote was "women's health," smoke and mirrors or reality doesn't matter, that election was lost on the perception of women's health and the fact the GOP handlers painted a picture of a man that couldn't speak his mind publicly. They redacted so many of his and Ryan's statements, their own party made fools of them on a very public stage.

Is that quote from a decision, or just something he wrote or said?

Hey, I'm all in favor of this last two weeks' crop of newly-minted "gun-owning democrats". Gives them a personal stake in their decisions in the future. I think the 2nd Amendment saints rejoice, and an angel gets his wings every time one of these weak-kneed, liberal sheep buys a gun for the first time (incited to action by the impending threat of stripped freedom from THEIR leader). Might shift their viewpoint a little more toward the center, and give them pause the next time they vote - if they're one of the gun-owning populace.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but there are indeed MANY moderate gun-owning Independents with a mix of Liberal, Libertarian, and Conservative ideals. Just sayin'... They're not all extremist loons out there, heh. Many Liberal gun-owners, and this isn't their first rodeo.

Many of us have written pissed off letters to all our Colorado (Dem.) Sens & Reps, using the helper links floating all over, after Fascist Feinstein's proposed bill was made public.
