Get your GWL and then for every weapon you buy thereafter you show your GWL, they make a photocopy of it, call it in and you are on your way.

all those people "doing" the checks need paychecks (I would say jobs, but that implies work)

Ya, I remember paying for mine back when the FBI was doing the background checks. Then it was to changed to CBI and had to pay for awhile. Crap I feel old looking back at this.
