I actually just watched that movie last night and was wondering why we haven't heard of a company attempting to incorporate this technology into a firearm. Granted, it would be extremely expensive to retrofit ALL firearms, and criminals wouldn't bring their guns in to get them upgraded, it could prevent further guns from getting into criminal hands.

On the flip side, just like fake id's are made, they would find a way to bypass the technology and still be able to use the firearm one way or another.

There's talk about it now. It's neat sure, but I'm not going to trust a mass produced chip to verify my identity before I'm able to use my weapon.

it is not new tech. It is also not reliable (got gloves). If it was, police would be all over it since they are most likely to have their own weapon used against them.

Another thing to malfunction or break. Keep things simple and durable. I can see why some politicians would love guns to be more unreliable and impossible for other family members to use. Incredibly stupid idea.

I couldn't agree more. I'm not in the least bit for it, however I haven't seen anything about it and we have the technology. Then again, we have the technology for cars to drive themselves, personal jetpacks, and probably even hovercars.

And...just how long will it take the gov to make an item that scrambles that component and perminantly disable the firearms in an area? Or for a criminal to make an item that unlocks all of these in his general area?

It'd be just one more crap being imposed onto American gun owners, while the bad guys will just hack or bypass the security feature.
