It's not a union thing, many of the metro area rank and file officers around here are making some six figure salaries not because of unions but because they work some serious amount of overtime. I would not fault someone for making the effort to want to earn extra money for themselves and their families. However the intent of me posting this article was to enlighten others of what may be coming regarding our currently legal firearms, and that down the road we may be made into villians like this person was. Most of us members are up standing citizens, and I am sure down the road we don't want to be made in to villians. We got to stand up and address this blatant attacks on the 2nd and turn it around. I own firearms because I can. I also own them to protect myself and my family. Some of us have spent some time in countries where rights such as firearm ownership and to speak your mind are not part of the culture. Thats part of the reason we were there. It scares the hell out of me when our society wants to ban those rights, for it makes me believe we could end up like one of those countries I mentioned where the government oppresses and is not held in check by the balance of its people.

I was a firefighter outside of chicago before moving here and I made nearly 90k without overtime. Property taxes on a 250k (3b2b 1500sq ft) house was also nearly $8,000 and sales tax is the highest in the country (11% I believe). My wife and I were definitely "middle class". Cost of living is a LOT cheaper out here. I make half of what I did back there and we live a lot more comfortably in a much bigger house. I believe NJ has the same property taxes.

Agreed our daugher had / still has the opportunity to work NYPD for some ungodly sum.
HOWEVER as posted above. Take the starting salary with increases over the years. Include the average median priced home (in even a shitty area) starts @ $300K EASY factor in TAXES [ Long island for ex] average yearly home owners starts @ $8-12K once again in a less than perfect area. Vehicle ins, food cost Forget about riding the train. Which is about the only perk LE receives (they ride for free) everyone else that's another $250 mthly.

Cheap place to dine out other than the Clown's golden arches dinner for 2 $75 NOT INCL Tax, Alcohol, Gratuity .
Hell due to the density of housing the only place to build is UP. The kids live at home because a 2 bd 1 bath dinette apt over some levitt home starts @ $2K. My nephew purchased a foreclosure for $325K ! ! ! ! That is one which needed major renovation before occupying. Now he has foundation and starting over due to hurricane Sandy.

Not defending NJ laws, it's sickening, but we as citizens must educate ourselves on what is legal. Just like with Pitbulls in Colorado. KNOW YOUR COUNTY, laws may vary between them. No one wants to cry about it later, there are a LOT of unfair laws.

And here's how he got paid $175k:

...he had earned $48,198 in overtime this year. Haner’s 2011 salary, overtime and other benefits came to $175,798, PA records show.
The PA suspended Haner without pay, making him the eighth such officer this year.
Additionally, at least three other officers were suspended with pay. A trio of PA cops who worked at the Holland Tunnel were suspended for fudging truck inspections to show they were more productive.

My concern out of all this is that they took them AFTER the wife filed a TEMPORARY restraining order. Once they require gun registration, it'll be as simple as this:

"You haave a restraining order against you, we have to search and seize all firearms now. I see you have a .40, a shotgun and 2 AR-15's registered. Step aside, sir. This wont take very long."

And all the little sheeple will be on board because you're a "threat" and shouldnt have access to guns.

I posted this on another board concerning this arrest:

The laws in NJ concerning LEOs having privately owned "assault weapons" are interpreted differently by each county Court. Listed as exempt from the "Assault Weapon" ban is:

"A regularly employed member, including a detective, of the police department of any county or municipality, or of any State, interstate, municipal or county park police force or boulevard police force, at all times while in the State of New Jersey" NJSA 2C:39-6(7) (a)

Some Courts in NJ have held the LEOs can have "Assault Weapons" while others have allowed charges to proceed. In the 1990s a sitting State Attorney General directed that no LEO would be prosecuted for possession of an "Assault Weapon" until the legislature clarified the Statute. No clarification ever took place.

While I personally believe that possession of an semi-auto rifle, regardless of features, is protected under the 2nd Amendment, this officer will have a long haul to clear his name.

Frankly, I couldn't care less what you do or where you come from.

I just have to say this... Anyone who moved here from NJ, congrats, you're the smart ones... NJ is a cesspool similar to NY- maybe NJ should be changed from New Jersey to "New York, Jr." Been there once, and never again...
