EoTech Question
For those of you with EoTech's on flat-top 16 inch uppers:
I'm familiar with what one can see and hit with a 4x scope with a cross-hair recticle on an AR. For example, hitting metallic animal silhouette targets out at 300, 400, and 500 yards.
What about those of you with an EoTech 512 - what is the smallest size target can you effectively see that you can hit at say 100, 200, 250 yards? Obviously large targets - but how small can you go? Aslo, do you sight your 512's so that the dot is positioned just below the target, or do you sight it to cover the target?

I've got mine sighted in at 50 yds and I put the dot on the bull. The theory is it will be also zeroed in at 200 yds this way. I'm having a little bit of trouble with the fuzziness but I'm told this is normal for this sight(512 by the way) so I guess more range time needed.

with my HoloSight (same as the 512) I can hit a man size silloute 400 meters. Now giving thats Only hitting it, with hologram sights you should co-witness with your Ironsights. I usally go for the 50yard then check at 100yard. As long as your grouping them you should be ok.

Good point Doc-Eotech's can mount directly to your flatop enabling the co-witness which to me is a must for your backup BUIS in case of battery failure or any other FUBAR. I just wish there wasn't the fuzziness for these old eyes.

Just a little different
I have my 512 sighted in at 100yds. When we run cqb stuff (under 25yds) u gotta remember the deviation of the optic vs barrel height. U just aim higher. As for the longer range stuff that we do...300yds +, man sized targets are no prob.
Prairie dogs however are an issue at that range, but I don't use a 16" m4 for that. I did get 1 coyote though at about 75yds on my uncle's farm, just held the dot right on the chest, let the 60gr vmax do the rest...
I have a 1:7 bl, and use 62gr's behind 22gr of tac. works pretty well, and it's cheap. Not a big deal to convert to the vmax's with POA vs POI changing = .25".
