Default Drive it or trade it....?

So during a dinner conversation on Sunday, the talk turns to used vs new cars. I casually wondered what my 2006 Tacoma with 96K miles might be worth. The wife says, "Why don't you go find out and get a new truck if the trade in value is good." Where did THAT come from!?!?!?!? So, what to do? I can get a new, 2013 Tacoma for arond $28K plus taxes and fees. A Tundra for a bit more. Truck's paid for, runs like a top and I like it. But with used vehicles bringing a premium, now might be the time to trade it off and get some value out of it. Have to sell a few things and raid the piggy bank to make it happen though.

I don't really "need" a new rig, but it would be kinda nice....What would you do?

As a car salesman I say go buy a car.

As a person who sees a world of financial shit coming durning the next few months I'd say keep the car you have and hold onto your cash.

If it were me i would try to sell it myself rather than trade, Unless they give you an offer that is what the truck is actually worth. They'll usually make what looks like a good deal then jack up the price of the new one. If i were going to purchass i would probably look for a new used one from a private party.

What it's worth is based on what someone (including a dealer) is willing to pay for it.

Dont forget when you trade you only pay tax on the difference.

Keep it if it's paid off or close to.
