I use a utility knife with an old blade. You can also make the "tool" for about $3 and 5 minutes of time. Go to Home Depot and buy a 1/4" clevis pin and drill the hole out to fit the pin and spring. I've heard you can do the same thing with a 1/4" wooden dowel for even cheaper.
