THOUGHTS ON REM 1187

Before purchasing a semi-auto shotgun, just wanted to get peoples thoughts on what some of the best ones out there were?
I have shot and am leaning towards the Rem 1187. Pros? Cons?

Looking to stay around $1200?

The 11-87 is an updated 1100 to reduce bolt cracking issues on heavy loads. I shot 1100's for many years and upgraded to 11-87's.
I have shot 11-87's since they came out in 1987. I have worn out 2 already. I have only shot about 200,000 rounds through the 11-87 platform.
They are by far the most proven semi-auto platform ever. Most modern semi-autos are reliable.
You will need a spare o-ring for the gas system. If it ever fails to cycle, replace the o-ring.... problem solved. (under a buck when bought in bulk) Remington recommends replacement every year so keep one on hand.

Benelli are great.. if they fit you. If they don't it may as well be a $1500 cap gun cause you aren't gonna hit anything.
Benelli don't fit me and I bet may others as well.

A shotgun unlike a rifle is shot by point of aim, not sights. It it doesn't point to aim without looking at the sights, it doesn't fit.

For the best design in a semi-auto gas gun the Browning Gold is about the best design going. Adjustable comb and LOP. They fit everybody.

I had an 11-87 super mag and hated it. Didn't shoot great with it and it had trouble cycling lighter loads like 7s and 8s in 2.75" and 5s in 3" even with the "gas seal activator" (an o ring designed to cycle lighter loads). I just don't shoot remingtons that well and it pissed me off when it didn't cycle during a few hunting trips. That said, I recently bought a vinci and will never look back. Get what you shoot best, but personally I love benellis.

If you are already at $1200 I'd say go the distance and get a Benelli m4. That's coming from a guy with zero semi auto shotgun experience, so take it for what It's worth....

move on up from the M4 to the Versa-Max...a very good choice for most things a shotgun is supposed to do.
