    I'm one of the few that not wearing a restraint, saved me. If I didn't end up on the floor, my top half wouldn't be intact with my bottom half, well, from my shoulders up anyway...

    Shame, but tempered by the fact that he didn't wear a seatbelt. No excuses for that.

    Since I don't know the full details of the situation there's no way to know if a seat-belt would have altered the outcome in any way. That being said, this seems like a wonderful time to warn everyone that bad things happen to good (and young) people and wearing your safety belt each and every time you get into your vehicle is a simple way to greatly increase your odds of surviving a traffic accident. For years I wore mine no matter what. I have since gotten out of that habit occasionally when I'm not going very fast, not in busy traffic or any other number of excuses. Even though those instances were rare for me I will now make a conscious effort to do it EVERY time no matter what. I hope this is a wake-up call for others as well.
