Default I Finally Decided it's Time for Another Dog (Pics)

As some of you already know we had two Italian Greyhounds and had to put one down last year due to cancer. She had just turned 8 years old and was healthy as could be otherwise. Nothing but the best for our dogs and we were doing everything in our power to make sure they lived a long and happy life. Some things are just out of our hands and we were pretty shaken up by the whole situation. My wife and our other dog were ready for another dog a few months later but I've been the lone holdout. I just wasn't ready for it and I'm still not 100% sure that I'm ready now but I think I'm about as close as I ever will be. I wanted our little guy to have a buddy to play with and to keep him company when we're not home so it seems like the time is right.

I surprised my wife for Christmas with the news and she was so happy. I had hoped to have one before Christmas but we're going through a rescue that saves mill dogs and has several Italian Greyhounds. Unfortunately they had some rescue dogs come in that ended up exposing the whole facility to kennel cough so now we're smack dab in the middle of a 3 week quarantine because they don't want to send out sick dogs to be placed in homes that already have dogs. We're trying to be as patient as we can but they still have to do the uptake vetting which includes dental, spay, shots and a few other things as part of the check-up. I called earlier to remind them of a couple of things we discussed when we were there (it's in Peyton CO) last week to meet her in person. Upon talking to the director we got some good news and we may have her as soon as this week!

I posted these pictures in another thread but wanted to start a dedicated thread for those who may not be subscribed that are dog lovers. There are a few other dogs there that need forever homes so if you have room, let me know. They have all sizes from boxers & weimaraners to smaller dogs like chihuahuas and daschunds. They have one daschund in fact named Jolly that is seriously one of the coolest dogs I've ever seen. His personality is amazing and he's such a cool little cucumber. They do also have more Italian Greyhounds and they make great companions. Of course these are mill dogs so there will be some work involved to get them use to the idea of being loved pets versus puppy machines that are mistreated and even abused and neglected. The horror stories start at feeding them the cheapest dog food they can find mixed with sawdust for filler and pressure washing walls of kennels with the dogs still in side for 'cleaning' and go up from there.

The little girl we're rescuing was rescued from a breeder auction where there weren't an bids on her due to her so her fate would have been sealed if it weren't for the fine folks at the rescue saving her from certain doom. She's about 4 years old and the name they gave her when she arrived was London. We actually like it so we plan to keep it. We're just so excited and can't wait to introduce her to her brother and her new home where she will be pampered and live a life of luxury. Most of our friends will tell you that she won the doggy lottery. lol

Without further delay, I give you.... London

If anyone is interested the rescue is called National Mill Dog Rescue and the dogs can be found here. Click on Available Dogs and check them out. I got a chance to see most all of them in person last week so I'm more than happy to answer any questions I can about these dogs. There were some truly amazing dogs there and I can tell you that whoever ends up with Jolly specifically will be SO happy they got him. If you look at the list of dogs they have his info but no actual photos of him. He looks a lot like the one in the stock photo though to give you an idea what he looks like. I don't think he will need any adjustment at all as compared to London and will be a wonderful pet for many years for some lucky family.

Anyway... can you tell I'm excited? lol

Thank man. I had rescued dogs when I was younger but when my wife and I got together she was set on Italian Greyhounds. At the time I had no idea finding a rescue would be possible as I've never seen such a thing at a shelter. Once we had ours I discovered not one but two rescues that have IG's in the state. I swore that if we were ever to get another that's what we would do and wish I had known about it before. I know it's going to be work as she's a bit of a basket case but in the few hours we spent with her (mostly in my arms on my lap on the sofa there) we already witnessed baby steps that gave us great hope for the future. When put down she would simply pace around the area spinning counter-clockwise circles and wanted nothing to do with us. We had to catch her. Then, after spending a couple hours in my arms, we put her down again and the crazy pacing came back but the first thing we noticed is that her paces and spins brought her back near me when before she wanted nothing to do with people. I just know that once we get her out of that kennel and home she will relax and bond hopefully sooner than later she can relax and enjoy the rest of her life being spoiled rotten.

Haha... I used to always joke that our dogs weren't enough to even get caught in the tooth of most dogs. Then, one day when I was walking Gixxer, a 135lb rottie came around the corner. My initial reaction was panic because the rottie was being walked by a relatively small woman and I was skeered that dog could take my dog in a heartbeat if it wanted to. Without missing a beat my 12lb girl started barking and lunging at the dog and I shit you not... that rottie ran behind it's owner's legs, curled up in a ball sitting behind her legs and proceeded to shiver. My eyes couldn't believe what they were seeing. That little girl was afraid of NOTHING and had no idea she was a 12lb dog. lol

Haha... we used to joke that our little girl Gixxer looked just like Scrat from that same series... the dude who's always trying to get the acorn. Every now and then her upper lip would stick on a tooth giving her 'snaggle teeth' and you would swear you were looking at the same character. Haha!

    Man... I miss that dog.
