    Default Thunder Beast Arms- new Suppressor Mfgr in WY

    Hi,

    In mid 2007 two associates and I began the process of forming a company to build sound suppressors up in Wyoming. Just a couple weeks ago we finished R&D on the first designs and announced them publicly.

    Since we're located in WY, we can't sell NFA items directly to CO residents; however, any Colorado FFL with a Class 3 SOT can order them for you. Jensen Arms in Loveland is stocking them.

    We will be having periodic "demo days" so people can see, hear, and shoot our cans, and we can arrange a private demonstration if requested. Thanks.

    We're actually right in the middle for price overall; however, we are the cheapest besides JET for a Ti body/baffles and being rated for other than .22LR. The only lighter Ti suppressor in this list is the Titan Three and it's $550.

    Here's the competitive data gathered today:
    3/11/2008

    Make Model Caliber dimensions weight materials MSRP if known

    Tac-Inv "Tac65" .22LR 1x5.97" 4.2oz Al $250

    Gemtech "Outback-II" .22LR 1x5" 2.5oz Al (Ti threads) $325

    AAC "Pilot" .22LR 1x5.25" 3.0oz Aluminum $350

    SWR "Warlock .22" .22LR 1x5.55" 3.5oz Al/SS $395

    Tac-Inv "Quest" .22LR 1x5" 7.1oz SS $400

    MGSS "JET" .22LR/.22WMR 1x4.9" Titanium $440

    SWR "Warlock QD .22" .22LR 1x5.8" 4oz Al/SS $445

    TBAC 22S .22LR/WMR/17HMR 1x4.9 3.2oz Ti $450

    SWR "Spectre" 5.7/17HMR/22WMR/22LR 1x6" 8.5oz SS $495

    TBAC 22L .22LR/WMR/17HMR 1x6.2 4.0oz Ti $510

    Gemtech "HMR" .17HMR/.17HM2 0.87x5" 5oz SS $525

    AWC "Titan Three" .22LR 0.95x3.3" 2.6oz Ti $550*

    AWC "Archangel T" .22LR 0.95x5.7" 3.4oz Ti $650*

    *AWC did not list MSRP so I used prices from Republic Arms (Impact Guns advertises "wholesale" not MSRP)

    * Cheapest with body/baffles made of other than aluminum: Quest (SS), $400 and 7.1oz (compare TBAC-22S at $450 and 3.2oz)

    * Cheapest with Ti body/baffles: JET, $440 and over 4.0 oz (compare TBAC-22S at $450 and 3.2oz)

    * Cheapest rated for other than .22LR: JET $440 (compare TBAC-22S at $450)

    * Median price: $445 (compare TBAC-SS at $450)

    * Smallest: Titan Three 0.95x3.3/2.6oz $550 (compare TBAC-22S 1x4.9 3.2oz $450)

    If I were in the market I would get one from you so we can support the local start-up/economy. I tend to look at pricing from a different standpoint than just buying the cheapest thing out there. I know from first hand experience that by buying from someone like you, I am helping create AMERICAN jobs while you are recoup'ing your R&D costs. Where some business people differ is they fail to lower their prices after they have done that. Another thing I look at is how much a particular manufacturer advertises. If they are taking out full page ads in every magazine they can, I know that part of the price I am paying is paying for that. One reason I would never Alpinestar boots. They spend a ton of money avertising for a boot that is made in China. You can buy an Italian made boot for the same money and get a much better product.

    So for supressors you can buy a mass produced one for a cheaper price, but do you really know what you are getting? Or, you could buy from a person who you know and trust, spend a little more but know you doing good for the country adn taking care of the small business owner.

    Thanks for the comments.

    Our main product line is lightweight Ti precision rifle suppressors (ie, for long-range shooters) and we are extremely price and performance competitive in that niche. Many of you know I used to shoot JET suppressors on my long-range bolt rifles. Our new suppressor the model 30P is both lighter than quieter than the JET, and works well on 6.5mm calibers up to 300 Win Mag. We have about a half-dozen in stock right now; the first order to Jensens is already sold out. Let me know if you want a demonstration and something can be arranged.

    A nearby supplier is nice, but the prices ARE too high, in my opinion...$1100 for a 30cal suppressor, while YHM 7.62 (closest caliber I could find there) runs only $700 with the threaded flash hider...

    In Zacks deffense guys I was simply talking about the .22 cans. The SWR Spectre is $495 I personally would never spend that kind of money on a .22 can. Yes the Sprectre is one kick butt can and I am sure Zacks .22 can is also but no way I will spend that kind of money on a .22 can.

    As for his .308 cans these are super light weight cans like jet offers if you have ever held one they are awsome. His prices on his .308 cans are comparible to Jet. Yes Yankee Hill and others are much cheaper but Yankee Hill sucks there cans are not as quiet and not even close to the qaulity of Jet and other upper end suppressors.

    I have a AWC Raider and put it up against a Yankee Hill .223 can and my Raider won that battle hands down. My Raider is a $900 can and the Yankee Hill is a $600 can. My Raider is also rated for full auto.

    I am all for a demo of your 308 can against a Jet since I am looking at purchaseing a can for my 300 Ultra mag and will also use it on my 30-06.

    Ridge,

    The YHM Phantom weighs 28 oz and is 11% larger than the 30P suppressor. It's 36% less money but it weighs 83% more. (I'm not sure if that weight includes the FH or not.)

    The 30P was designed specifically for use on precision rifles where weight is at a premium and accuracy is paramount. Besides being less mass to lug around, light weight contributes to minimizing zero-shift can on vs. can off. On my 26" medium Palma contour barrel (260), the deflection is approx half what it was with the JET.

    There are a number of steel 556 and 308 suppressors that are less than $750 and provide good suppression. If light weight isn't a priority, by all means buy one of those. However, if you want a 308 suppressor under 20 ounces, the prices start at about $1050 and go up fast.

    HunterCO,

    We are rating the 30P up to 300 Win Mag because we haven't been able to test it enough on a 300RUM yet. The main thing you will notice with these magnums and a 15 oz suppressor is that they will heat up extremely quickly, and will degrade your sight picture with mirage. If there is demand, we may do a larger can which will suppress the .300WM, Weatherby Mag, and RUM better. As for a demo day, I'm trying to find a free weekend day in the next 3 weeks to start off.
