Any one here a Database Admin?

Just seeing if anyone here is a DBA. I'm trying to become one and don't really know what the next step should be.

What steps have you taken so far?

Basic query stuff. I work with it everyday. I can do some advanced stuff but not much. I'd like to know more advanced query stuff and actual admin stuff. The class I was taking was MySQL based an I use SQL Server. SO outside of query language not much crosses over.

I run and configure db2 in enterprise configurations. High ingest stuff, 30MB/s is the slow stuff. Ar_ART is a dba... Most of the stuff out there for our line of work is schema configuration and related to tablespaces. . I recommend understanding the whole picture to make yourself more marketable. IE, understand the HW, Memory, Disk drives. Always stay up to date on HDD's, RAID arrays and their levels. It's always a changing world and will make your head spin. You gotta be able to do the basics though first. Make sure you can script your queries...

4 of those FK3rS stood me up last night doing an oracle 11g migration from EMC to IBM storage. Bastards think they know so much, and every one couldn't hold onto a db2 server if it jumped up and bit them in the a$$. And, they all work for our government in the GSA. If you want to look at db2, send me a pm. There's a couple good classes and tons of online education.

Yeah ill contact you tomorrow. I'm glad you said it instead of me. I work for a Software company and we finally just fired our last indian. He was very very smart. But ever since we hired him, It was like we lost someone else because we always had to have someone holding his hand. We arent exactly structured and there is a lot to interpret when we code and he couldnt figure that out. Not to mention we took him shooting and we called a cease fire (up in the mnts) and i turn around to walk up and he's pointing a gun right at my face.
