It's nice to have attachments but they are expensive storage wise. I try to post any images I need online to my imageshack account. Most other forums I'm on don't allow attachments for that reason.

Images coming from another site embedded in your posts will decrease costs of bandwidth and storage.

I'm not worried about attachments at this point. We have ~800GB free on the server, and responsible attachment size limits. Have years left before worrying about it so long as we don't have dozens of them per post or PM, which is a possibility. At that point, I'll yell at the worst offenders.
