Cool Why do we count as parents?

    Soooo.......

We (my wife and I) have found ourselves counting to our older boy....

"If you don't (etc), you are going to bed, 1...2...3"

WTF????? We have never taught him that in discipline. NEVER has an option been instilled where you have till to the count of.....

As parents, are we naturally ingrained with counting to 3???????????

Impending punishment. After a good spanking a child realizes that oh shit on three i'm going to get my ass beat. I usually folded after 2.25.

We teach others how we want to be treated... In this case you have taught your children that you really don't mean what you say until you say it multiple times.
What is my joy if all hands, even the unclean, can reach into it? What is my wisdom, if even the fools can dictate to me? What is my freedom, if all creatures, even the botched and impotent, are my masters? What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to obey?

My dad only said it once. Started counting... I still fear the snap of a belt to this day.

Also it's because we believe in a gold silver and bronze. A, B, and C as passing. etc.

Pre-planning is the key - Bed time in 10 minutes. Get cleaned up and ready for bed...NOW!

I see you are moving too slowly to accomplish your assigned task, therefore I will motivate you to move at an accelerated speed. DROP! (front leaning rest, or the up position) By the numbers, 1 (down position, chest approximately 1" from the ground, back straight). After counting to yourself from 1 to 15, 2 (return to the up position). 3 (same as 1). 4 (same as 2, followed by your child sounding off with a loud and vigorous ONE, or TWO, or THREE, etc as appropriate). Repeat as needed until said child is properly motivated. There are lots of additional variations that can be added as needed, such as Leg Lifts, Squat Thrusts, and the ever popular Bends and Mothers. Given the proper motivation, many children will respond with great vigor to avoid this motivational approach. Start early and it will serve you for many years and may actually become a source of family fun for years to come.

As you can see, counting by parents and children can be fun

We wanna give our kid(s) the benefit-of-the-doubt... We think that by counting, we allow them to take in... process... and come to the reasonable conclusion ON THIER OWN that what we are asking them to do is for their own good!

When what we REALLY mean is.... DO WHAT I'M TELLING YOU BECAUSE I'M ABOUT 3 SECONDS AWAY FROM WHOPPIN' SOME A$$... We try to pad it with the, "this will hurt me more than it hurts you" cliche!
