In December of 2012 SGM (Ret) Tyson C. Nick was Killed in Action repelling an enemy attack in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. He fell while attempting to save an downed soldier. SGM Nick had retired after 24 years of service which included tours in the US Army's premier direct action unit. He was working as a civilian in support of OEF at the time of his death.
SGM Nick left behind a wife and three children, including a two year old son. A trust fund has been established called the Tyson Nick Memorial Trust at Regions Bank in Raleigh.
The SGM will be laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery on February 20.
Additionally, a young singer and friend of the Nick family, Summer Collins, released a song called "Young" dedicated to SGM Nick and his family. Proceeds from the song will be donated to the Memorial Trust.
