Default Question about the Panic for older members

I was just out of high school when the '94 AWB went into effect, and not really in to guns yet. By the time I knew what was happening, the post ban stuff was rolling in and prices were pretty stable, I guess.

For those who were paying attention back then: Was it similar, leading up to it, like what's happening right now? Panic buying, mag and ammo shortages, etc.?

Hell, it's hard to find a BCG right now without paying through the nose.

Yup, massive panic as I remember it. Depending on what gets banned of course (hopefully nothing) prices will come down on almost everything back to pre-panic prices. Not sure what will happen to 23-30 round mags if possession of them is actually banned. They may become more valuable than gold.

It was worse in California in 1990.

the prices may settle down, iw ould say that to what level will depend on what the ban actually looks like.

It was pretty much similar to the current panic buying. I sold off a folding stock AK for about quadruple what I paid for it. That paid for me buying something that could actually hit a target ...

While things settled down and prices reduced, I don't think they quite came down to pre-AWB levels.

Default How does this panic campare to the last one??

I'm too young to remember what specifically happened before the 94' AWB and I was out of the country for the election of BHO... So I'm wondering how these "panic" buying times compare to those times...Were prices similarly inflated? Hard to get parts? I'm not trying to speculate on new bans or anything, I was just wondering if it was like this in previous years. Pure curiosity.

Some things are cheaper this time, some things cost more. When Glock G18 mags hit $250ea toward the latter part of the last ban, I could no longer justify owning the six I had and sold them for $1,500 (A gun shop I frequented asked if I had any, and proceeded to offer that for the six I had, -who knows what they charged, this was Atlanta in 2002).

As far as the '08 election, the ammo availability was similar to now but I don't recall people charging $.75/round or more for .223. .22LR dried up completely after the '08 elections though, it was a while before that hit the shelves again.
