Get another duramax, period. dodge is next runner up. Don't even consider a powerjoke...powersmoke or whatever you want to call it. I'm a GM tech that used to work on diesels, USED TO is the key words in that sentence. Besides the ocassional head gaskets on the 2 and D motors (2004.5-2006) and a couple injetors here and there they just don't break.

Emissions standards changed in 07 for diesels and it's killing the motors. When I retire my 99 Cummins I'll be looking for an 04.5 to early 07 Cummins with the 5.9. If you are a Ford guy be sure to get the 7.3 they are tanks. 8 out of 10 trucks in our shop on a daily basis are Ford's with the 6.0 because the EGR coolers fail. Depending on what it takes out with it you are looking at anywhere between 2,500 to 6,500 in repairs. This is not in high mileage trucks either, it's common anywhere from 40 - 90k. If you are a Chevy guy the same as the Dodge I'd do an 04.5 to early 07. They are rarely in the shop but when they are it's pricey due to engine bay space.... JMBD2112 can probably attest to this that you are pulling the cab to do even the simplest of job like head gaskets. Happy hunting........

I'll stick for the new ford ecoboost gas engines over the new diesels. If diesel was cheap again, I might consider it but the eco boost has plenty of tow capacity great gas mileage and like a diesel, a little tuning and bolt on mods make even more power & TQ.

I almost had a heart attack last year when I looked at getting a Lotus Evora. The Registration tax here is insane. In FL I pay under $200 for a 2 yr registration and we have no emissions & no inspection. You just ned a vin to get a tag. Which is why I will be keeping my FL registrations even for new cars

Honestly, all 3 of the new diesels are badass. I own a 2009 dodge 3500. And I just bought a 2010 F250. I can't tell which one i like more yet.

if you are going to keep it stock the new fords have a ton of power and yank trailers around with ease. So do the others, but when I towed with a 2012 ford. I was surprised at how little throttle I had to use to get a 6000 pound trailer upto speed. And I'm not talking about slowly accelerating, the thing flat out wanted to rip the tongue off of the trailer.

Like others have said. Go test drive them all and that will help with your decision.

Your GMC is cool. Why are you getting rid of it? Racking up miles?
