Thread: 40 PERCENT???

    Default 40 PERCENT???

Where does the government get this mythical 40% of all gun sales are without background checks? It also seems that all of the dealers at gunshows have their ffl and are legit. There's a lot of liberal propaganda that is just plain BS. Can anyone enlighten me?

You have enlightened yourself Grasshopper. "There is a lot of liberal BS"
Therein lies your answer, and the answer lies within.

On a side note though- prior to yesterday apparantly there was no means to track firearm sales. It seems BHO's executive wisdom is more effective than we thought......

According to John Lott, and the interview I heard him on yesterday, (I haven't looked for a source for it personally yet) It comes from a poll done during the Clinton Administration of a whopping 250 ish people. Then take into consideration that the majority of that 40% includes, gifts and inheritance. So like most libtard stats, it's skewed WAY out of real world proportions, or at the very least stacks the deck by falsely naming the subjects.

Why hasn't anyone tried to debase this old stat then? Just wonderin? I know how deaf the public can be and they hear only what thery want. But if this is that old and that unreal, then shouldn't we speak out about this? I am a newby to the gun world and I have become staunch a2 guy in this past year. I have been initiated into this new hobby(and enjoying the hell out of it too) and I'm going crazy over how stoopid these anti gun people are. I wish I would have gotten involved YEARS ago.

I'd have to say that my gun purchases without bg checks are a damn sight higher than 40 percent, more like 90.

Read an article (cant find it now) this morning, that the 40% number comes from a report by Mr. Anti-Gun himself, Michael Bloomberg that estimated 40% of all gun sales go without a background check. I suspect 40% is a guesstimate because you cant possibly account for all private sales because they are unrecorded.

Keep in mind, Colorado is not representative of the country as we closed the "gun show loophole" years ago.

It appears the actual number of sales that take place without a background check, excluding family members and FFL-to-FFL transfers, is closer to 10%. Yet, over 80% of prison inmates caught with a gun bought it without a background check.

I know this isn't a popular opinion on this board, but I support universal background checks. The current gun trafficking law doesn't have enough teeth for the feds to care except in the most egregious circumstances, either. Universal checks and a stronger straw purchaser law could make it harder, or at least more expensive, for criminals to get guns.
