Is this true? Guns kill as many as cars

Just saw this on an AP story:

(AP) - Nearly as many Americans die from guns as from car crashes each year. We know plenty about the second problem and far less about the first. A scarcity of research on how to prevent gun violence has left policymakers shooting in the dark as they craft gun control measures without much evidence of what works.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...n_U.S._by_year we had 32,367 deaths by car in 2011. We can't have that many gun deaths a year.

You get that number by adding the number gun homicides to the number of gun suicides.

They only looked at like 10 states for those numbers. When you take Alaska for example, more guns and drunks that shoot and kill. Not as many cars. But combine all 50 states, no it's not true.
