Default QD mount for precision shooting?

Does anyone use a QD mount for the optic on their precision rig? One of my buddies is trying to talk me into using a Larue QD mount to mount glass on my new rifle. I can't get my mind around it. It just doesn't seem like it would be as solid as rings. Thoughts?

I've heard complaints of their being too high (for a bolt rifle). Seekins are good reasonably priced aluminum rings and Spuhr are top-end 1 pc. mounts.

I run LaRue on my precision AR.. Works like a champ.

I have Spuhr on my SSG3000. On bolt guns for long distance I only run real rings.

What is my joy if all hands, even the unclean, can reach into it? What is my wisdom, if even the fools can dictate to me? What is my freedom, if all creatures, even the botched and impotent, are my masters? What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to obey?

On an AR I could see it. On a bolt dedicated long distance? No thank you. Snag the handle, have to retighten it and not trust it until you shoot it again. I'll pass on that noise.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Thanks for the input, guys. I think I'll stick with rings.

I'd love it if it worked. I have a Bobro mount on an AR and love the ability to pop the scope off for cleaning or whatever. I've been considering the idea for my precision rig, but I'm waiting until I can do some real testing with the Bobro and determine how well it returns to zero. If it goes on and off with less than 1/4 MOA variation, I might consider trying it.

I haul rifles around in packs a lot these days, and I'd feel better sometimes if I had the scope off the gun and in some more protected area of the pack.

I have to admit I'm skeptical that I can achieve the level of precision and reliability I want with a QD mount, but I'm going to casually look into it.

I tried that mount and it is way to tall for a bolt gun unless its in one of the chassis's that lowered the bore line to be inline with the stock , it would work great on an AR 10 but not a standard configuration bolt rifle .
