Shortage of small rifle primers?

Just wanted to see what the local gossip is about the shortage of small rifle primers. Sportsmans Warehouse, Bass Pro are out, seem to be on backorder all over the net. I did find some on the net, but with a $20 hazmat fee it's a bit much. Anyone know why the shortage? Seems odd it's only small rifle as large rifle, small and large pistol are well stocked.
Now I will rant:
I found a guy today at a hole in the wall called the Reloader's Corner.
What a dump. Anyway, he had some primers, and I found some good deals on bullets for .223 and brass for my .357.
I was about to spend a bunch and (from the looks of the store) make this guys day. I gave him my visa card. All my cards say "see ID" on the back.
He says " I can't take it if the card's not signed" to which I replied "that's why I'm showing you my ID". Again, he says " I can't take it if it's not signed". I said "well, I guess I don't need to buy anything from you" and walked out.
I know it's his business, but he didn't even go as far as to look at my ID. Even if I had cash on hand I would not buy anything from him just due to his attitude.
There. I feel better. Sigh.

"See ID" is not a legal signature according the the Credit people.

He has the right to refuse the card if it is not signed. It is a valid reason as most cards in reality are technically not valid unless they are signed by the authorized use.

I find no fault with his reasoning considering the amount of credit card fraud there is.

a few other reasons why there is a shortage is because a lot of people are getting into reloading as the price of ammo increases. Also, people are hoarding. If I find primers I usually pick up a few thousand; instead of, a few hundred and I share them with my dad.

I'd like to get around 500, so I can finish what I have ready and have a few hundred left for after I shoot them. I need 250 to finish my loading.

I guess (hope) this is a temporary shortage, so I suppose I can just wait it out. Don't really have a choice. At least it's not a critical need, like food or beer!

I'll just keep calling around till I find some. It's not like I've scoured all of Colorado (yet).

Co Spgs Sportsmans Whse had some Magtech small rifle primers a couple of weeks ago. I bought 1K to try because nothing else has been available. No problems so far ; in fact test loads had smaller ES ( and SD ) than I expected!

bought 1K of small rifle primers and 500 large rifle primers at sportsmans the other day. I think when they get them in they are gone within a day or two. i even found a couple of them laying on the ground...probably the aftermath of a fight that broke out when they were put on the shelf and two old reloaders grabbed the same box!

I have enough to hold me over for now.

I will not buy primers from bass. they have them in when i go there, but at over $2 more per/100, there is no way. I won't pay more than double just because they are in stock...that is the reason they are in stock Im sure.

Everyone seems to be out of varget, except cabelas! I was up there this weekend and got a couple lbs to try. If i like it, then sportsmans sometimes has the 8 lbs in stock.
