XDM TRIGGER-POWDER RIVER DROP IN?

Both myself and my wife have been carrying two matching XDM 3.8 in 9mm.
It is my long awaited perfect carry:size, weight, capacity, all are what I have been looking for and then some.
The only sore spot to me is the trigger.
I have always been a 1911 guy, and I just can't warm up to the long pull of the XDM stock trigger.
So I read about this "drop in kit" from powder river precision that apparently cuts down on pull weight, overtravel and travel.

But how does it compare to a 1911 trigger?
Is it worth it (I would have to buy two, the whole point of carrying the same gun with my wife is that we are both accustomed to each other's gun operation should SHTF)?
Anybody has one installed?

Well, I just picked one of these kits up from a little gunshop down where I'm temporarily working for $50 (they'd gotten it by mistake in an order); I won't be home until the beginning of April but if you haven't gotten yours done by then I'll be happy to give you a report on how mine does in one of my XD .45's.

I know Whistler put one of these kits in his .40 XD subcompact. I've fired it several times since he installed it, and I can attest that it is a pretty sweet trigger now. Almost zero take-up before it breaks (scary if you're not expecting it), and a good positive reset. It's a little too light for a CCW IMHO, but he seems to like it. He installed it himself and I know he did a lot of disassemble, sand, reassemble, rinse repeat before he got it to work properly. Probably best to have a gunsmith install for you if you don't know what you're doing.

I have the 4.5" version of the XDm in 9mm. I love the trigger although it is not as smooth as my Colt Commander Gvmt Model.

Is the 3.8" version of the XDm a lot smaller? I can carry the 4.5" version in winter, but not in summer (prints).

I install a lot of them. By comparison, the powder river drop in is less smooth, but shorter and crisper than the springer. to me, and almost all my customers, the powder river feels better. springer is smooth but feels 'mushy', and often requires gun smith fitting.

So, yeah, powder river is good to go.

I have it installed on my 4.5 XDM and absolutely love it. Everything is better about it. Easily the best upgrade out there for the XDM. I also carry a 3.8 xdm and will probably end up throwing one on it.

So, I finally pulled the trigger and purchased two PRP drop in kits.
I installed my own first, following their You Tube video.
No major issues there, but when I pulled the trigger in dry fire...nothing.

Did not realize I had to file down some from the overtravel stop.

So I did, a little at a time, until the sear released the striker.
Pick up the gun the day after from the glove box, after work, went to dry fire, ...nothing.
Mind you, this is Colorado in the winter, so the gun was quite frozen!
After putting the gun on (basically thawing it with my body heat) it came back to operating condition.
So, I tested this a couple more times and sure enough temperature seems to be a factor.
How that would be, given that metals contract in the cold, is beyond me, but I am no engineer either.
So, here I go with the file again, removing more of the overtravel stop, and it is now definetely less temperature sensitive.
As long as I don't leave in in the freezer for about an hour it is fine, but my wife's (still with the original trigger) will release the striker even after a whole night in nthe freezer.
Of course, that comes at the price of more overtravel, which is the reason we bought the kit to begin with...

I really don't want to overdo the overtravel stop filing and end up at square one, and yes, I realize that if I end up spending an hour in the freezer I do have bigger problems .

Am I asking too much of this kit?

Seriously.? They are not even what most would call good, and I have several XDs. SIL put a Powder River in and really likes it.

Wow. Sorry to hear that. My trigger dropped right in without any fitting. I'm not sure if it was due to the fact that I installed it on a 4.5. I can't imagine why there would be a significant diference.
