Moisin Nagant Slip-On Butt Pad and Rear Sight?
Does anyone have a favorite one that works well. I measured the butt-stock and it is 1 1/2 wide and 4 inches tall. I was hoping to get one locally maybe Green Mountain Guns.
I also need a rear sight base. I have a MN that is sporterized with a crimp on open sight. I would like to put a scope mount on the rifle. It has a bent bolt handle. It may have been heated and bent down. I don't know if its a sniper bolt.
Thanks!

We talking M44 or 91/30 and are you looking for a scout scope setup or something more traditional? I might be wrong but if it has a crimp on rear sight you have a 91/30. A lot of them actually had dovetail in the barrel that the rear sight base mounted to. If it does have the dovetail then you are pretty much set. You can get a set of 3/8 dovetail rings to mount in place of the old rear sight base and use a pistol scope or any LER scope. If you have never tried it you might actually like it. Easy to use and very quick to get on target.

It does have the dovetail in the barrel. I was going to install a sight base and install a weaver style rail to mount a scope in the standard postion. I shoot with my left eye closed and would prefer a rear mount scope.
If I install a Long Eye Releif scope can I still close my left eye? I have a hard time getting a good sight picture with both eyes open. I think I am left eye dominant and I am right handed. I'm 48 years old and have astigmatism(bifocals). It takes some concentration to get sighted in with both eyes open.

Makes no difference which eye you use. Your head is still in the same spot as with a scope over the receiver it just has longer eye relief. I don't think I've ever seen a mount that replaces the rear sight that would allow a scope to be mounted over the receiver. You'd have to get it drilled and tapped. Which isn't hard to do. In fact with a decent drill press you can do it yourself with one of the ATI kits. Done them before. You just have to pay attention to where you are drilling and go easy with the tap. If you don't need a high mag scope then the scout setup using the dovetail is the cheapest route to go and will work pretty well. I had a 91/30 that I didn't want so a buddy of mine bought it. Ended up doing some work for him on it in my spare time. Used a S&K scout mount that replaces the rear sight and glass bedded the action to fix the loose stock fit. I've used target sports brand cheapo on a 91/30 and a yugo mauser and they have held up so far. Not the best or the clearest but they work.
