Every few months spam gets sent to dozens of folks in my contacts list from an old email account that I closed YEARS ago. It appears to be sent by my old account address, but it's obviously not me sending it. I even get the damn spam.
I have no clue what to do about it. Freaking annoying.

Were you actually hacked* or just spoofed**?
Everyone gets spoofed from time to time and frankly there's nothing you can do about that.
*Hacked = your account was compromised and emails were actually sent using your account.
**Spoofed = someone pretended to be sending email from you but was in fact using their own account, just futzing with the headers to make it look like it came from you.
