Default MO joining in on introducing stupid gun laws!

Missouri bill demands parents report gun ownership to public schools

Any parent who owns a firearm would be required to notify their child's school in writing under legislation proposed in the Missouri Senate.
"Responsible gun owners have nothing to fear from my legislation, and nobody... is talking about taking anyone's guns away," she said.
However, she recognizes that the chances her legislation becomes law are "probably zero," even though she is willing to drop the provision mandating reporting gun ownership to local schools.
Republican state Sen. Brian Nieves, a Washington Republican, agrees with her assessment of the bill's chances.
"This bill is dead on arrival," he said. "This bill will not become law in the state of Missouri. It's just not going to happen."

Luckily it's not expected to pass, but holy crap! Imagine if it was law that you had to report being a gun owner to your kids' school....

My kid's school asked them if I own any guns; I found this out when the wife and I were in a meeting with school officials later about something else. I thought about chewing some ass over it, but i decided that all it would do is highlight something I don't want highlighted.

It was one more factor in our decision to have the wife homeschool the kids, though.

My son is two and we're working on a plan to ensure that he doesn't have to go to a public school.

I have to say that having dealt intensively with schools both in Colorado and New Mexico (top rated districts in both locations) I'm not impressed. Too much high level control of what is taught and how; the schools have been hogtied by "No child left behind" and all the standardized testing. Now they teach the test, and the test is everything. No Child Left Behind would be more accurately described as No Child Allowed To Succeed; it's all about catering to the lowest academic need and ignoring everything else. All I can say is, do your research, find a good curriculum, put some effort into it yourselves and your child will do well. The only factor you have to put extra effort into is the social one; but there are home school groups out there that band together for this as well as parent support.

I'm from MO and am saddened to see this sort of thing even introduced. The state is increasingly controlled by the Left on both sides of the state (KCMO & St. Louis). Few of those I know, stuck in the middle, have Left-looking attitudes. Most meet the Obama definition of bible-hugging, gun-clutching, God & family loving folks who embrace the Constitution. Too bad we can't do away with the urban areas and return to small towns everywhere - the mentalities would certainly change.

My brother and his wife have home schooled their three children so we've got a good support system to learn from. I might hit you up for additional info when the time comes.

You do realize that homeschooling is already officially considered one of the red flags don't you?

What's the big deal? You already have to report if you bought a Toyota or not.

If the public schools aren't giving Elementary kids condoms and allowing gang members to beat them up and sell them drugs; while encouraging kids never to fight back, always to obey orders, and to snitch on family and friends; they are calling parents up to pressure them into medicating their kids for acting normal. There is a reason why people with money send their kids to private schools. Probably half the students at the average Catholic school aren't even Catholic.
