Pretty sure everybody should have one in their bug-out bag.
Don't waste your money on this. Sawyer bottle filter is .1 micron is the minimum you want for bacteria (Sawyer filter is 1 million gallon life time). 0.02 micron is needed to filter viruses.

Yep.. wulf beats me to it. Buy Sawyer! It's the only product miners/oilers use as emergency kit for the in the middle of nowhere in some third world country project. Time to bump wulf202's thread on water.

Fragile Sawyer bags contaminate clean water!, April 27, 2012

This review is from: Sawyer Point One Squeeze Water Filter w/ 3 pouches (Sports)
While the filter itself is great, the bags Sawyer uses tend to develop leaks along the seams if squeezed very much. This allows unfiltered water to trickle down into your clean water, contaminating it. Be sure to carry at least one back-up bag to replace a leaking one. For more information, check the threads on the Sawyer squeeze filter in backpackinglight.com, where this has been discussed extensively.

twice the price and about 10x as good??? hmmmmmm

Skip the bag and use it as straw like you originally intended. I use http://www.rei.com/product/822013/sa...9-001b2166c62d

Oh thanks ChunkyMonkey! that bottle seems to be more efficient than the bags with .01 filtration. I like the fact it holds the water too. Rather than using the swimming pool as a cup!

Life straw also has a shelf life of only a few years and can not be stored in high heat or extreme cold such as in a car

Now that is very good to know as one of these was on my lists for our get home bags. Gonna rethink that.
