Forget about 223/5.56. However, I have had recent success finding 22lr (Mini-Mag bulk packs) at Sportsmans Warehouse, and Winchester White Box 9mm 100 packs at my local Wallyworld in Lafayette. Key is checking every few days.
"Guilty of collusion"
I gave up on trying to find ammo at Wal-Mart several weeks back. I never could find the right time to go. And when I found a couple that showed local stock online... the guy at the counter would tell me the stock indicator online was wrong. I figured that was his way of telling me he is either taking it for himself or holding it for somebody else.
I've always done my bulk purchases online anyways. Found some 5.56 in stock at Midway USA on Tuesday, they shipped on Wednesday and it arrived on Thursday. 25 boxes at a fair price... delivered right to my doorstep. I would have ordered 50 boxes, but they had a 25 box limit.
So now you're equating yourself to britneys cock sucking phase on a balcony with a drug problem... Interesting. But hey that's your choice JM.
I've found quite a bit of ammo at Walmart and have built up a fairly substantial stash in the past month and a half.
I have 3 Walmarts that I pass on my way home from work. I make it a point to stop by each Walmart a couple times a week. I've managed to score several thousand rounds of 9mm, .40 and .22LR. I've seen .45 and .357 on the shelves quite a few times but I don either so I don't pick it up. 9mm has been the toughest to come by but one of the Walmarts recently got in 50 50 packs of PPU 9mm. I bought half of their stock. I went back a couple hours later to get more for one of my buddies and they were already sold out.
.223 is a different story. I had a tough time finding .223 pre Sandy Hook. I managed to find a handful of the Federal 100 round bulk packs a few weeks before Sandy Hook. They had the American Eagle stuff in pretty much every time I went there but at $.60 a round I never gave it a second look. Now you can't even find the American Eagle stuff.
I used to hate the guy that would buy out Walmarts supply and not leave any ammo for anyone else. Now I am that guy, it sucks but I go to the range at least twice a month and ammo is extremely scarce. The only way I've been able to maintain my regular range trips is by hoarding ammo. On the plus side I finally have enough ammo stashed that I can go to the range and blow off a couple hundred rounds without fear of not being able to get more ammo.
I don't consider it hoarding if you actually use it. I always keep a couple of thousand rounds of 9mm and a thousand rounds of .40 on hand. I'll build up a cache of a few thousand rounds of .223/5.56 when I can. That 500 rounds I got in this week was the first AR ammo I've been able to get my hands on since building mine. I try to keep a nice cache on hand... but I rotate and replenish as I use it. Buying in bulk online makes that pretty easy to do. If that gets taken away from us in legislation... that will suck. I hate sharking around local stores for bulk.
