Dogs can be trained. If you let them run wild all over you, then yes they will bark at their shadow, the wind, etc.

Pellet gun or .22 subsonics are pretty quiet.

I hope they find the dirt bag and pin his ass! So many things wrong with shooting your neighbors dog. I think a certain LEO was charged with a felony for the same, no?

Obviously, one neighbor was driven to the point of vigilantism. I'm not saying the dogs deserved to be killed, but dogs are usually an example of their owners training or lack of. Could this incident be handled differently? Yes of course it should have been handled legally. Since there is a police record of the dogs barking it is very possible the owners were talked to by concerned neighbors regarding the barking dog issue before authorities were involved. I myself have heard of this occurring in my lifetime. Definitely not in a urban environment though. Think what you want of me, I don't care one bit. But I guarantee the people that didn't do this crime that live in the neighborhood are all glad they don't have to endure the noise. Not that they would admit it. I love my dog and the dogs I've had before her. But the phrase "Dogs are people too" just pisses me off. As much as we love and care for our dogs they're still just animals, not humans.

Dogs aren't people. They don't have the luxury of understanding logic. Therefore, as humans, we have the sacred duty to care for those that have entrusted their care into our hands.

if you have taken a pet, then care for it.

The example I bring is this: every time I deploy for any length of time, I can't explain it to my dog. She just knows that I stopped coming home. My wife tells me that my dog sits at the door that I last walked out. She sits there all day.

These owners didn't care for their pets by training them. There's a special place in hell for whoever did this to those dogs.

Something else I was reminded of when my neighbors just let their dogs out...

The Castle Rock area like most of the bottled up neighborhoods have rabbits everywhere. Most dogs that rarely bark at all, will often bark at the rabbits, hard to train out a few thousand years of instinct.

Then have some consideration for your neighbors and bring the dogs inside....or be an inconsiderate asshat and see what happens. The dogs are the owners RESPONSIBILITY.

Have consideration for your neighbors. Train your dogs, pay attention to your dogs. But there will always be that one neighbor that is a complete asshole.
