Responding to a friend of mine, this is what Polis wrote back:

"I believe banning weapons possessed by law-abiding people violates the Second Amendment.

A ban on certain popular semi-automatic weapons could make it harder for Colorado families to defend themselves and also interfere with the recreational use of guns by law-abiding Coloradans. If we want to reduce violence we should invest in improving our schools to ensure that young people have jobs and do not turn to gangs, crime, or violence of any form and improving access to mental health services."

Polis saw the winds blowing against the ban and knows he can false flag and steal some future votes.

He is one of the most progressive members of the US House of Representatives. He is also a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. I smell reluctance due to major backlash. Do not trust though.

Don't forget that one of Jared Polis' businesses is a charter school system for "at risk" students.. He knows what it takes to operate a school and his schools do better than the public school system.

He is also against the Patriot Act and said this about it: “Mr. Speaker, the Patriot Act is a bill that has been plagued with abuse since it was first passed, and today’s rule is yet another example of short-circuiting the system that ourFounding Fathers set up. If there were ever the need for the close supervision and congressional oversight of a law, it is a law that discusses how and under what conditions a government can spy on its own citizens.”

And Polis on civil liberties:
"While in the House, Polis has been a staunch advocate for civil liberties, saying while campaigning in 2008 that “Balance must be restored between the executive and the judicial branch (through the restoration of Habeas corpus), (by clarifying that the President does not have the Constitutional authority to unilaterally alter legislation throughsigning statements), and between the executive and the people of the United between the executive and the legislative branch States (by clarifying that the Fourth Amendment requires probable cause and a warrant for the government to spy on Americans)."
